DIVISIONS AND UNITS
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office includes a number of divisions, each using innovative
leadership and dedication when providing quality services to the residents of our area.
Below is a listing of all divisions that make up the entirety of the Ascension Parish
Sheriff’s Office.
Divisions
Business Office

The Business Office has two locations, one located within the Gonzales Courthouse, and the other within the Donaldsonville Courthouse. At the Gonzales Courthouse citizens are able to pay their property taxes, pay fines, retrieve a copy of police and accident reports, background checks, and forfeitures. At the Donaldsonville Courthouse Business Office citizens are able to pay property taxes, pay fines, retrieve a copy of police and accident reports, and obtain background checks.

Civil Processing
|
|
The Civil Office is responsible for seizure of property and movables generated by court actions, and service of civil documents that are issued by the court.

|
Communications
|
|
The men and women who serve in 9-1-1 Communications are responsible for maintaining the essential information link between the public and our law enforcement officers in the field.
|
|
Corrections
|
|
The Corrections Division is comprised of the Parish Prison, Victim Notification, Visitation and Jail Release departments.
|
|
Evidence
|
|
The Evidence Division is responsible for the tracking, storing, releasing, and disposing of articles of evidence.
|
|
Investigations
|
|
The mission of the Criminal Investigation Division is to serve and protect the community through professional, impartial investigation of crimes and violent activity.

Investigative Support Division
|
|
The Ascension Parish Investigative Support Division is in charge of collecting, extracting, summarizing, analyzing and disseminating criminal intelligence data gathered from a variety of sources.

Juvenile Family Services
|
|
The Juvenile Family Services Division is comprised of the Juvenile and Domestic Violence Units and Family Services Crime Prevention.
|
|
Narcotics
|
|
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit's sole purpose is to combat illegal drug use and drug dealing within our community. We especially target those who traffic in illegal drugs and those who make drugs available to our youth.

Office of Public Information
|
|
The Office of Public Information prepares news releases, co-ordinates print and broadcast coverage of agency events and acts as the liaison between APSO and the local, state and national media at crime scenes and other activities that generate media interest. APSO Public Information Office provides automatic notification via e-mail each time a news release is posted to our web site and social media sites. After hours and on weekends, the public information officer is always on-call for emergencies and for significant breaking news events. The Office of Public Relations also handles all public records request.

Patrol
|
|
Patrol Division is made up of marked units and motorcycles who respond to incidents of crime and traffic 24 hours a day. The Patrol Division is also responsible for School Security Officers in the Ascension Parish Public Schools.

Programs Unit
|
|
The Programs Unit is in charge of community outreach including, but not limited to, Neighborhood Watch Programs, Junior Deputy Program, Christmas Crusade for area children, and SALT (Seniors and Lawmen Working Together).

Special Investigations
|
|
Special Investigations provides investigative support to all divisions of the Sheriff’s Office as well as to a wide variety of other law enforcement agencies, including local, state and federal agencies. SIU provides investigative assistance on major crimes; including homicides, sexual assaults, robbery, serial crimes of violence and financial crimes. SIU also handles cold cases.

Training
|
|
Training is an integral part of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. This Division handles all aspects of training, including weapons, while also alerting the public to changes in Rifle and Pistol Range safety regulations.

Warrants
|
|
The Criminal Warrants Office of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the service of all criminal warrants and any other documents of arrest.

Special Units
Crisis Response Team: (CRT)
|
|
The Crisis Response Team (CRT) is a highly trained, specially equipped unit designed to provide an organized response to uncommon threats, such as hostage situations, barricaded suspects, sniper incidents, and high risk warrant services.

Hazardous Materials/Emergency Response Team
|
|
The HAZ-MAT Team was developed with the purpose of responding to hazardous materials releases with a well equipped team with advanced training to protect life, property, and the environment. Team members are trained to directly intervene at the release of a hazardous material for rescue of contaminated individuals and to contain or otherwise control the negative effects of a release.

Reserves
|
|
Reserve Police Officers are citizen volunteers who devote their time and effort toward creating a safer community.
|
|
Water Patrol
|
|
The primary mission of the Water Patrol Unit is the patrol of Ascension Parish waterways. This includes the search, rescue, and recovery of victims involved in boating accidents in Ascension Parish. In addition they perform routine water-way inspections to ensure that boaters are following proper safety standards as required by state and federal laws.
